Types of Golf Balls

January 29th, 2009

If you are shopping for the holidays and looking for a great gift for your male friend that loves golf you might be thinking that golf balls are the best choice.  It is often not a good idea to purchase golf balls as gifts but if you are going to anyway then there are several things you need to know.  There are three types of golf balls that you can wrap up underneath the artificial Christmas trees.  These are the soft, hard, and the mixed.

Putting golf balls underneath the artificial trees for Christmas is not always the best choice if you don’t know much about the game of golf.  Golf balls are usually chosen based on how the golfer swings the club and on the golf course and weather conditions also.  Before you make a purchase you must know about the golfer you are buying for.

The soft golf balls are the most expensive type of ball you can purchase.  You may be thinking that because it is more expensive then it must be the best golf ball.  This is not the case.  The softer golf balls are designed for the professional golfers that have a golf swing of over 100 mph.  If you are purchasing golf balls as a gift to put underneath the prelit artificial Christmas trees that is an amateur golfer with a slow golf swing then you need to purchase the harder golf balls.  That is because their swing is slower and they need the harder ball to achieve the greater distance in their shot.

The golf course will also determine the type of golf ball used when playing the game of golf.  If the person you are purchasing for has a specific golf course they like to play on then you need to find out about the terrain of the course.  If the terrain is very hard astro turf then the balls need to be the softer golf balls.  This is because if you use a hard golf ball on a hard terrain then the ball will be doing a lot of bouncing around and add to par as the golfer chases the ball around.  If the course is soft with tall grass then a soft ball is not a good idea because it may be hard to get the ball to travel anywhere.

The weather also plays a role in the type of golf ball used.  Although you are purchasing a gift and you don’t know what the weather will be like when they are playing.  However, if it is raining or it has rained the night before then the course is probably still wet, soggy, and soft.  This requires a hard ball.

Purchasing golf balls as a gift for the holidays or a birthday is not always a good idea unless you know the way the person you are buying for swings the club.  There are many factors which determine the type of ball that needs to be used on the course.

For next Vacation Consider Golf

December 7th, 2008

If you are thinking of taking your wife on a vacation and you cannot figure out what to do the best thing you can do is take a golf getaway.  The holidays are the best time to go if you are thinking of a tropical place and she will love it too.  You can enjoy the golf, she will enjoy the shopping and the amenities of the hotel, and you both will have total relaxation during your holiday getaway.

Now you might think that a golf getaway is a selfish vacation to take when you plan your next vacation.  Actually, it is not. It gives the two of you a chance to have some alone time and do as you wish while you golf and your wife enjoy her time too.  One thing you can do is set her up for a day at the spa located inside of the hotel you stay at while you spend the day golfing.  She can enjoy a full body massage, pedicure, manicure, and even a facial.  A day being pampered is something she would absolutely love and there is no way she will be upset with you for golfing.

Many women complain and hate your golf weekends with the guys.  You might be thinking there is no way she will be okay to spend the holidays at a golf resort.  You couldn’t be further from being incorrect.  Women are entirely pampered in the resorts while you are golfing.  She will enjoy the shopping for gifts under the artificial Christmas trees and checking out the spa, relaxing by the pool, and participating in many other activities set aside for the women.  You can enjoy playing several rounds of golf at a new destination you have never dreamed of golfing at.  The lighted palm trees on the golf courses make the game even better.

When you go on a golf getaway at a new destination it allows the two of you to finally get away from the stresses of the holidays and life.  All of your time won’t be spent on the golf course.  The two of you can have a romantic candle light dinner and talk a walk along the streets and enjoy the decorations and artificial Christmas trees that line the shops.  The good news is that you can get away from the snow and the bad weather during the holidays and enjoy it somewhere tropical on a golf resort.  Golf resorts have many amenities which include tons of shops, spas, hair salons, restaurants, cafes, movie rental options, hot tubs, swimming pools, and much more.  There is more than enough to do and usually plenty of evening entertainment so you don’t even have to leave the resort during the entire vacation.

The next time you plan a vacation with your wife you may consider taking a golf getaway.  You know you have probably always dreamed of golfing in an exotic location and she has probably wanted to travel there.  A resort will give you the round of golf of your dreams and the shopping and pampering she never imagined.

Different types of Golf Shots

July 28th, 2008

There are many different types of shots when you play golf. These also determine the type of club you use when you play. It is important to know the type of shot you need to take to achieve the goal of making the hole or getting to your next position.

A drive is the long distance shot that is played from most commonly the tee. From every shot at the tee you will hit the ball as hard as you can and get the best distance you can. It is common to take a drive shot from the fairway also toward the green.

Article source:

The approach shot is the shot you think will put the ball on the green. This type of club will usually be a short range iron club with the intention of getting the ball on the green. You will choose the club based on the distance you need to hit the ball. This shot is not always taken if you achieve getting the ball on the green from a fairway or tee shot.

The put is the shot designed for the ball to roll on the ground and into the hole. There is no intention of getting the ball into the air when you hit it on this shot. You normally use a putter and need to concentrate really hard on this shot so just relax, focus and think of scent of your favorite candles, Votivo candles for example. If the put you are making is a long put then this is called a lag. This put will be intended to move the ball closer to the hole as possible with the intentions of hitting the ball again at a shorter distance. Some people get lucky and make the ball in the hole on this shot.

A chip shot is a lofted shot that is short and used to get your ball out of a bad situation. If your ball has landed in a sand trap you may need to use this type of shot to get the ball out of the sand and back into play on the fairway. A variation of the chip shot might be the bump and run shot. This involves running the ball with a high lofted club along the ground using a putting motion.

The punch or knock-down shot is a low loft shot of different distances. These types of shots are used to avoid hitting the ball into a canopy of trees or over other obstructions, something similar to let’s say bathroom vanities obstructions in mini-golf, that can be in the way.

There are many different types of golf shots you can take when you are playing golf. You should learn the different shots you can take. They usually depend on the terrain you are on and the distance you need to hit the ball. Shots are everything when it comes to playing golf. You cannot take the same shot every time or you will never make the hole. You also need to know which golf club to use for each hole or you will never make the shot.

Hitting the Golf Ball

June 29th, 2008

When you play golf, your swing is everything. If you don’t have the right swing then you have nothing. You should consider your swing in everything you do.

A full swing when you golf is the complex rotation of the body and the head at a great speed to make contact with the ball. The full swing will include the backswing, the downswing, and a follow through. The full swing is complex and can be very hard to learn. You might have to spend several months getting down your full golf swing properly before you spend any time on the golf course.

When a golf ball is hit it acquires a backspin. The backspin is imparted for most of the shots. This usually is from the club’s loft, which is the angle between the face of the club and the vertical plane. When a ball is spinning it will deform the air around it as an airplane wing would. The backspin will experience an upward force which causes the ball to gain height and distance. A ball that doesn’t spin doesn’t get enough height or distance. Even an Internet marketing consultant can get the right distance.

When you hit a ball with a sidespin you will add a curve to the ball. This can occur on purpose or on accident depending on how you hit the ball. If you intentionally misalign the face of the club to the plane of the swing, the ball will have an arc. This type of spin can make the ball curve left or right and can be helpful when turning corners and avoiding hazards. When a right handed player hits a sidespin ball it is called a draw. If the curve is too severe to the left it is called a hook. If the curve is subtle and to the right then it is called a fade. A severe curve upward is known as a slice.

When you misalign the club to the ball you can cause a draw or a fade to happen. This happens when the contact made to the ball is slightly open or closed when contact is made, and can happen even to experienced and skilled players when they lose focus so suggestion is to always be as calm as possible, thinking of something that relaxes you, remembering how your favorite Trapp candles makes you feel work for my friend who works for the INS for example, before taking a shot. A skilled player can control the amount of draw or fade they want to have when they attempt to gain a curve on the fairway path. The things you need to think about include making contact late or early in the swing.

Making contact with the ball in your swing is everything. You need to be sure you hit the ball properly as intended. You might need to practice your swing for months before you are capable of actually playing a hole on the course. You should consider the back spin, side spin, and more. If you are right or left handed you might hit the ball differently also. There are many things to think about when you want to play golf. The swing is the most important thing.
